Texas Senator Florence Shapiro

I will be making an official announcement today that I will not seek re-election to Texas Senate in District 8. I want you to hear the news first.

Austin, Texas - District 8 State Senator Florence Shapiro (R-Plano) announced today that she will not seek re-election in 2012. Shapiro will complete her current term that runs through the beginning of January 2013.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - State Senator Florence Shapiro (R-District 8) and many other Senate colleagues today held a press conference to announce public education funding recommendations brought by the Senate Subcommittee on Public Education Funding.

"Our subcommittee has worked very hard and diligently in coming up with these recommendations," Shapiro said.  "If fully implemented, we believe these recommendations will result in a major restoration of funding for the public education budget."

"As a voter, you have to believe that concepts of what you believe in, the policies that you believe in, the activities that you believe in manifest themselves in a candidate. Go find that candidate. Find the reason that you are getting up on November the 2nd and going to the polls. That's what ought to motivate you."
