State Senator Florence Shapiro Announces Retirement

Austin, Texas - District 8 State Senator Florence Shapiro (R-Plano) announced today that she will not seek re-election in 2012. Shapiro will complete her current term that runs through the beginning of January 2013.

I will be making an official announcement today that I will not seek re-election to Texas Senate in District 8. I want you to hear the news first.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - State Senator Florence Shapiro (R-District 8) and many other Senate colleagues today held a press conference to announce public education funding recommendations brought by the Senate Subcommittee on Public Education Funding.

"Our subcommittee has worked very hard and diligently in coming up with these recommendations," Shapiro said.  "If fully implemented, we believe these recommendations will result in a major restoration of funding for the public education budget."

Senate Select Committee on Redistricting Holding Joint Hearing in Dallas on Monday (9/20)

On Monday, September 20, 2010, the Senate Select Committee on Redistricting will hold a joint hearing with subcommittees of the House Committee on Redistricting and the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence. The purpose of this hearing is to receive public testimony.
