I Pledge to Continue to Protect Your Taxpayer Dollars in Austin

By: Florence Shapiro | October 12, 2010

As your Senator, my philosophy has always been—and will continue to be—that the role of government should be a limited one. Government cannot and should not be allowed to continually expand its role.

Texans deserve elected representatives who will fight for citizens—not the special interests. Since you first elected me, I have fought bureaucracy at every turn. I have kept a watchful eye on your tax dollars while fighting against the wasteful ways of the Texas Department of Transportation and an often ineffective criminal justice system.

And meanwhile, I consistently fight for the schoolchildren of Texas; they deserve nothing less. In a freeloading era of “bailouts” and “stimulus” giveaways, Texans cannot afford to expect anything less from their elected officials than honest representation; the people have a right to be defended against government intrusion. Now more than ever, voters deserve an experienced, battle-tested soldier to represent them in the Texas Senate.

I pledge to continue working on behalf of my constituents to protect taxpayer dollars and ensure that our children receive a first-rate education, the best in the country.

As your State Senator since 1993, I have consistently taken my job seriously. I stand by a record in which I have:

  • Protected children against sex offenders through Ashley’s Laws
  • Expanded our capacity to build roads with current funding sources through the Texas Mobility Fund
  • Promoted business growth through the Emerging Technology Fund
  • Cut school property taxes including voter approval for future tax increases

The Texas of today faces numerous challenges as we strive to create a strong Texas of tomorrow. This November, I ask for your vote so I can continue serving you and other hard-working North Texans. With your support, I will keep fighting to cut waste in government, strive to revolutionize public education, and tirelessly work to protect the safety of our citizens. Texas will continue serving as a role model for other states—and, without question, will remain the best state in the nation.

Warm Regards,

Florence Shapiro
